What Does Sound Equipment Insurance Mean?

Sound equipment insurance is an insurance policy that covers damage or loss to articles and tools used to mechanically produce or amplify sound for a public performance such as a musical concert. This is typically purchased by performers or venue owners.

Insuranceopedia Explains Sound Equipment Insurance

The coverage provided by sound equipment insurance is similar to that provided by a typical property insurance policy except that it specifically covers equipment that produces sound.

The perils covered by this type of insurance include, but are not limited to, theft, vandalism, fire damage, and rain damage. It can also cover the equipment owner for liability in the event of involvement by a third party.

Performers and venue owners are the ones who are typically interested in purchasing this kind of insurance, since, unlike damage to home stereo system, a loss or damage to their sound equipment will affect their livelihood. A concert hall, for instance, cannot amplify sound or do so without distortion if their equipment is damaged, which compromises their ability to host performers and sell tickets.
