Key Takeaways
Travel and tourism, cloud computing, and non-alcoholic drinks are the new trillion-dollar markets.
With four new sectors joining, Statista projects 30 trillion-dollar industries in 2026
Every year, only a handful of industries cross the trillion-dollar mark, joining an exclusive group of markets that drive the global economy. In 2026, four more industries are expected to reach this milestone, driven by changing consumer habits, new technologies, and growing global demand.
According to data presented by Insuranceopedia.com, travel and tourism is set to become the first of these new trillion-dollar industries, with three more sectors expected to follow by the end of 2026. Here’s a closer look at the markets set to reach this major milestone.
Travel and Tourism, Cloud Computing, and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Are the New Trillion-Dollar Markets
Based on Statista’s 2026 projections, 26 industries are expected to generate one trillion dollars or more in annual revenue. These giants, including digital payments, stock markets, healthcare, manufacturing, media, IT services, and insurance, among others, represent the largest markets in the global economy, shaping employment, investment, innovation, and consumer spending. And their number continues to grow, with four more industries set to join this influential group by the end of the year.
According to the latest Statista Market Insights data, the travel and tourism industry is set to reach this massive milestone first. High travel demand, consumers continuing to prioritize vacations despite inflation, a growing focus on deals, shorter trips, and better value, and major global events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup have turned travel and tourism into a surprisingly resilient industry amid global economic uncertainty. Statista expects consumers worldwide to spend $1.07 trillion on travel and tourism in 2026, 8% more than last year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 36%.
However, cloud computing is by far the biggest new entrant, adding more than $210 billion in annual revenue in a single year thanks to its 23.5% growth rate. According to Statista projections, the market will generate $1.11 trillion in revenue this year, with most of that coming from the SaaS (Software as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) segments.
By the end of 2026, two more industries will join the trillion-dollar club. Despite a much slower growth rate of 2.6%, the tobacco market is also expected to surpass $1 trillion in annual revenue. Non-alcoholic drinks round out the list, with a projected 4.1% growth rate and $1.03 trillion in revenue in 2026.
The Statista data also reveals which trillion-dollar industries are growing the fastest. With a projected annual growth rate of 23.5%, cloud computing convincingly leads the group, followed by IoT at 11.6%, travel and tourism at 8%, the food industry at 6.9%, and advertising at 6.6%.
Interestingly, three of the five fastest-growing trillion-dollar industries are digital or technology-driven, while travel and tourism is the fastest-growing consumer-facing industry on the list.
The World’s 23 Highest-Revenue Industries Will Generate Nearly $86 Trillion This Year
With four new sectors joining the list, Statista projects that 30 industries will surpass the trillion-dollar mark in 2026, measured using the most relevant metric for each market, including revenue, assets under management, transaction value, market capitalization, or value added.
Wealth management leads the group with $160.1 trillion in assets under management. Stock markets follow with a combined $154.4 trillion in market capitalization, investment funds with $148.6 trillion in assets under management, and payments with $37.4 trillion in total transaction value. Construction ranks fifth with $21.7 trillion in industry value added.
Besides the insurance market, whose $9.15 trillion is measured in gross written premiums, and private equity, whose $2.12 trillion is measured in assets under management, the remaining 23 industries are measured by annual revenue.
According to Statista, these 23 industries are projected to generate more than $85.7 trillion in combined revenue in 2026.
