What Does Claimant Mean?
A claimant, in the context of insurance, is a policyholder who files a claim or formal request for payment from their insurer to cover a specific loss.

In many circumstances, a third party will file claims on behalf of the insured, such as in the case of health insurance for routine exams or other covered treatments. Otherwise, the Insured typically must file a claim to receive their policy benefits for a covered loss or damages.
