Foremost, a subsidiary of Farmers Insurance, offers standard as well as optional coverage that can probably be found with other mobile home insurance providers. Its most appealing and competitive feature, though, is its generous “extended replacement cost” coverage.

Here is where the value lies of replacement cost coverage with Foremost: If your mobile or manufactured home is completely destroyed, you’re eligible to be reimbursed as much as 20% more than the face value of your policy limit.

Foremost stands out in the area of customer satisfaction, also. Its J.D. Power customer satisfaction rating is a superior 868 / 1,000, tops of all the insurers we reviewed.

On the down side, Foremost doesn’t give instant quotes on its website. You must submit your information on a quote form, and then receive an email quote within 24 hours.

Foremost is one of the largest and most reputable mobile home insurance carriers in the country, with almost 40,000 agents representing the company.

Progressive is an attractive choice for multiple reasons, such as: customer satisfaction ratings, high financial strength, discounts it offers new homeowners, and digital experience. Progressive’s website is user friendly, fast and easy to navigate. You can obtain a quote instantly online. It offers a mobile app that’s another popular feature, also.

Progressive’s “Single Deductible” benefit was unique among the mobile home insurers we reviewed. Here’s the way it works: If you bundle your mobile home and your auto insurance with Progressive, any claim you might file for either of these policies applies to both policies, instead of incurring a separate deductible for each policy.

For instance, if a hail storm damages the roof of your mobile home and your car, too, and you have a $500 deductible for both policies, you will only have to pay one single deductible of $500 and both will be repaired. This is a really great benefit and one that policyholders much appreciate.

Why We Like Them

When American Modern was founded in 1949, it was one of the first insurance companies that specialized in mobile or manufactured home insurance.

The company is a standout with its specialized coverage that offers coverage to owners of mobile or manufactured homes that are vacant and/or seasonal. We didn’t see this benefit offered by any other mobile home insurance company we reviewed.

For a total loss, American Modern settles at the stated value of your home as it’s listed in your policy. There’s no depreciation deduction, either. For a partial loss, the company will pay the actual cash value of the loss, but the policy holder has the option of upgrading to a replacement cost valuation.

  • Brings extensive experience and understanding of the mobile home market over decades

How To Find The Best Mobile Home Insurance Company For You

If you’re searching to find the best mobile home insurance along with the right company, just follow these simple steps:

  • Choose at least three companies for quotes, of the ones we’ve reviewed here. Obtaining multiple quotes will help you become more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of mobile home insurance and also keeps you from overpaying for your coverage.
  • Decide which perils you need to have covered. Fire protection is standard, but also take into consideration things such as living near water or mountains that might cause flooding, in which case you might need a separate flood insurance policy, depending on the insurer.
  • Don’t forget to insure any valuable or unique items you may possess. Calculating the value of these items, along with your other possessions, will help you to arrive at the right policy limits. This will prevent over-insuring or overspending on insurance protection.
  • When you get a quote, be sure to include renovations, upgrades or other major work that could affect the value of your mobile home.

Take pictures and record serial numbers of valuables, appliances, and other items you intend to insure, either before or after you get quotes. Keep this information in a safe, waterproof and fireproof container, or even at a completely separate location. You will need this information if you have to file a claim.

Average Cost of Home Insurance in New Jersey

Though none of the insurers we reviewed gave prices on their websites, we estimated that the approximate cost of mobile home insurance in New Jersey is between $600 and $1,000 annually. This depends on several factors, including your coverage limits, deductible, options selected, and other elements as shown below.

Factors That Impact Mobile Home Insurance Policies in New Jersey

Many factors affect your mobile home insurance rates, including:

  • The age of your home
  • The limits and coverage you select
  • The cost to replace your home
  • Where you live (zip code)
  • Your deductible
  • Your claims history

All of the insurance providers we reviewed offer varied types of discounts to mobile home insurance policyholders, such as bundling your coverage with your vehicle insurance.

What Does Mobile Home Insurance Cover?

A standard mobile home insurance policy usually features the following coverage:

Dwelling Coverage

Dwelling coverage will pay to replace or repair the structure of your mobile or manufactured home, provided it’s been damaged by a covered policy event, up to the limit you chose when you secured the policy. You must pay the deductible you chose before the insurance provider pays on an approved claim.

Events such as these are typically covered:

  • Lightning
  • Burst pipes
  • Wind and hail
  • Weight of ice and snow
  • Fire
  • Vandalism
  • Explosions
  • Falling objects
  • Damage from wild or stray animals

Other Structures Coverage

This coverage will pay for repairs to a fence, shed, or other structure that is unattached to your mobile home, as long as the damage is caused by a covered event.

Personal property coverage

This coverage will pay to replace or repair furniture, electronics, and other belongings if they are damaged by a covered event or stolen.

Liability insurance

Liability insurance will pay in the event a visitor is injured on your covered property and consequently sues you, or if you accidentally cause injuries and/or property damage to others. Liability insurance will often cover related legal expenses, too.

What Does Mobile Home Insurance In New Jersey Not Cover?

Literally every insurance policy has its own coverage exclusions. Mobile home insurance in New Jersey typically does not pay for damage caused by:

Earthquakes

Although New Jersey isn’t known for earthquakes, mobile home insurance in the state  doesn’t protect you against “earth movement.”

Flooding

If your insurance company doesn’t pay for flood damage and you live in an area that’s at risk for flooding, we recommend that you purchase separate flood insurance.

Insect or Animal Infestation

Insures consider pest prevention a part of ordinary maintenance, which is not covered.

Wear and Tear

Insurance will cover sudden, accidental damage, but it will not cover normal, natural wear and tear.

Damage Associated With the Use of Your Mobile Home for Business Purposes

You might need a commercial policy if you conduct a business out of your mobile home.

How To Buy Mobile Home Insurance Online In New Jersey

Follow these steps to make purchasing mobile home insurance online an easy and relatively quick process.

  • Decide how much protection you need. Besides your mobile home itself, add up the contents of your mobile or manufactured home to determine the property damage coverage needed if you have to replace your home and its contents.
  • Get a quote online. Most companies that sell mobile home insurance in New Jersey offer the option of getting a quote online. There are websites, also, that perform a coverage and cost comparison, making online shopping for coverage easier
  • Complete your application for coverage. When you have calculated the amount of coverage you need at a price that suits your budget, you’ll need to complete your application. Many insurers’ websites allow you to apply online, but others require you to meet with an agent to complete the application.

Unique Considerations For Mobile Home Insurance In New Jersey

Much like some of its coastal neighbors to the south, New Jersey is subject to a variety of extreme weather events, including:

  • Damaging winds
  • Wildfires
  • Tropical storms
  • Hail
  • Hurricanes
  • Lightning
  • Flood damage
  • Tornadoes
  • Tropical storms

Due to the possibility of severe weather, we recommend that every mobile home owner in New Jersey has adequate insurance coverage.

How To Find Cheap Mobile Home Insurance In New Jersey

You’ll soon find that rates vary by company for their basic coverage, as well as their options. Be sure to inquire about any discounts that are available, as these are easy money savers.

We recommend not selecting an insurer based on just price. Be sure that you have the right coverage amounts and that you’re getting an apples-to-apples comparison if you obtain quotes.
