Insuranceopedia Explains Miscellaneous Expenses

A health insurance policy may, for example, provide full coverage for room and board, but have only limited coverage for miscellaneous charges.

Miscellaneous expenses could include x-rays, drug tests, and other additional treatments beyond the primary provision of care. If a policyholder reaches the limit for miscellaneous expenses, they will have to shoulder the remaining costs themselves.
