The Insurance Institute of America (IIA) was founded in 1909 to provide training for those who want to join the insurance industry. In 1953, the IIA began collaborating with the American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters.
In 2009, the IIA has been renamed The Institutes.
The Insurance Institute of America has gone through some significant changes over more than a century of operations. Recently, it has taken advantage of technological opportunities. In 2007, it began offering online courses, and in 2012 it worked to attract young people to the insurance industry through its social media platform.
